Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has claimed that the North London club would have been title contenders this season if Harry Kane was still at the club.

The 30-year-old England international joined Bayern Munich at the start of the season and he has been outstanding for them so far.

Kane has 28 goals across all competitions and there is no doubt that he would have improved Tottenham immensely. The North London outfit have been quite impressive this season and they are currently pushing for Champions League qualification.

Sherwood believes that Ange Postecoglou deserves a lot of credit for Tottenham’s progress this season after the departure of a key player. The Londoners were overly reliant on Kane for goals up until last season but they are now sharing the attacking output throughout the squad.

“It’s not because Harry Kane has left the club that they have had to share them out,” said Sherwood (h/t HITC).

“It’s because Postecoglou has come to the club that they share them out. If they had Harry Kane, then I am telling you, they would be up there and really challenging.

“I think the manager has to take a lot of credit. He is the one setting the standards and making the style of how they play, hence why they share the goals around the team and they are up in the goals without Harry Kane.”

With that said, they could still use a quality goalscorer in their ranks. Signing a reliable finisher in the summer could take them to a whole new level.

Tottenham have impressed with their free-flowing attacking football under their new manager and it remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly and secure a top-four place.

They have brought in some exciting young players since the start of the season and a couple of quality additions during the summer transfer window could transform them into genuine contenders next season.
