Momentum is building over the potential sale of Manchester United with Sir Jim Ratcliffe emerging as a potential buyer.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is interested in buying a stake in Manchester United, according to The Times.
“If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer,” Ratcliffe’s spokesperson said.
“If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership.
“This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset.”
Stretty News understands Ratcliffe has held a meeting with one former United player, who proposed the idea to Britain’s richest man, as a plea to help save the club from the Glazer family.
Furthermore, a New York investment fund is interested in buying the club, which means Ratcliffe will have competition.
Ratcliffe is the CEO of Ineos Group Ltd and owns Ligue 1 side Nice and Swiss Super League outfit FC Lausanne-Sport. He is the United fan who showed interest in buying Chelsea before Todd Boehly’s successful bid earlier this year.
This comes after a report stating the Glazers are considering selling a minority stake in United, as per Bloomberg, but eventually someone will want to buy the club outright without the American family helping themselves to annual dividend payouts.
