Luciano Spalletti has mostly put together Italy’s squad for Euro 2024. He’ll call up 28/30 players at the end of May and cut it down to 23 before the start of the tournament.
According to Sky, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Guglielmo Vicario, and Alex Meret will be the three goalies. Ivan Provedel, Marco Carnesecchi, or Michele Di Gregorio will be the fourth option during the retreat.
Alessandro Bastoni, Alessandro Buongiorno, Giorgio Scalvini, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Matteo Darmian, and Gianluca Mancini are almost locks in the back. Francesco Acerbi will make it if cleared by the sports justice. Federico Gatti and Riccardo Calafiori are the fallbacks.
Federico Dimarco, Destiny Udogie, Raoul Bellanova, and Andrea Cambiaso are in the lead on the wings. Spalletti suggested he’d favor versatile players, which will affect his choices in the midfield and up front. Nicolò Barella, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Davide Frattesi, Bryan Cristante, Jorginho, and Giacomo Bonaventura are the frontrunners. Manuel Locatelli is on the bubble depending on the squad’s makeup. Giovanni Fabbian and Michael Folorunsho have outside chances.
Mateo Retegui has earned the pole position in the no.9 role. Giacomo Raspadori is a pet player of Spalletti. Federico Chiesa and Nicolò Zaniolo are poised to make the squad. However, Matteo Zaccagni, Matteo Politano, and Riccardo Orsolini aren’t out of the running. It’ll hinge on whether there’ll be four or five attackers. Gianluca Scamacca, Ciro Immobile, Moise Kean, and Lorenzo Lucca lag behind the other forwards.
