League Cup holders Celtic FC Women have today been handed a tough away tie against Partick Thistle in the second round of this year’s competition. The match will be played at Petershill Park in the north of the city and the provisional date for the match is Sunday 2 October with a 1pm kick-off.

However as Glasgow City, who are also playing their home matches at Petershill Park this season, have been drawn at home to Aberdeen, there is a clear clash. This game looks like it has been selected for the later afternoon kick-off time of 4pm for broadcasting on the BBC so both cup ties could indeed proceed at the same venue on the same day, provided there are no objections.

This actually happened at the semi-final stages last season over at Forthbank Stadium in Stirling with Glasgow City playing Partick Thistle before Celtic played Hibs later in the afternoon.

Celtic had beaten theRangers in the previous round at the David Murray Park and came back from a goal down to beat Hibs in the semi-final to earn a place in the final. That showpiece event took place in early December at Firhill where a Caitlin Hayes header won the match for Celtic, to land the first trophy of an historic season as Celtic went on to win the Scottish Cup, again against Glasgow City, this time at Tynecastle at the end of May.

Celtic Womens FC are Scottish Womens Premier League Cup Champion’s during the Scottish Womens Premier League Cup Final match between Glasgow City FC & Celtic FC at Firhill Stadium, Maryhill, Scotland on 5 December 2021.
