Tennis star Sloane Stephens, longtime USMNT striker Jozy Altidore married on New Year's

Former U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens and longtime U.S. Men's National Team star Jozy Altidore were married Saturday, Jan. 1 in Miami Beach, Fla., People Magazine confirmed Tuesday with exclusive photos of the event.

Stephens, 28, emerged as a bright, young tennis star in 2013 when she upset Serena Williams at the Australian Open on her way to a semifinals appearance. She won her first and only Grand Slam singles title four years later at the U.S. Open, defeating Madison Keys in the finals.

Altidore, 32, has appeared in 115 international games representing the United States and is third in the USMNT in goals. He also plays for Toronto F.C. of Major League Soccer and scored four goals during the 2021 season.

The athletic couple revealed their engagement on Twitter in April 2019.

According to USA Today, Stephens and Altidore were childhood friends who reconnected in 2016 and began dating.
