Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has criticised goalkeeper Illan Meslier for a mistake on Friday night.

Daniel Farke’s side moved up to second spot in the Championship after a 2-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

Patrick Bamford gave the visitors the lead in first-half extra time before Wilfried Gnonto doubled the advantage 13 minutes after the restart.

But Sheffield Wednesday almost got themselves back into the game courtesy of a mistake from goalkeeper Meslier.

After failing to hold onto a long-distance shot the ball bounced out to the feet of an attacker before Ethan Ampadu cleared off the line with a spectacular piece of defending.

Speaking on talkSPORT Redfearn criticised the French goalkeeper for an almost costly mistake.

“That is shocking from Meslier, the goalkeeper. I mean the ball bounces in front of him so it is difficult, but that comes off him and if Smith’s a little bit more alert there, he’s got a tap-in.” He said via MOT Leeds News.

But Farke’s side were able to hold out from then on as the game finished 2-0 to Leeds United.

Leicester City remain just two points clear at the top of the table although the Foxes hold a game in hand, as do third-place Ipswich Town who are just one point off of second.
