Arsenal legend Thierry Henry had his say on Manchester United’s humiliating Champions League exit this week.
The Red Devils were put out of their misery on Wednesday night after Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory at Old Trafford cemented United’s place at rock-bottom of Group A.
They claimed just four points of the 18 available and are now ruled out of Europe entirely before Christmas, as their finish left them unable to qualify for the Europa League knockouts.
While United’s campaign was nothing short of woeful, with even their one win against Copenhagen being a narrow one and largely down to Andre Onana’s last-gasp penalty save, they remarkably scored the same amount of goals as Bayern across the six matches.
United weren’t short of goals in Europe
Ironically, the side have managed a mere 18 goals in 16 Premier League matches this term but netted 12 times in six outings on the European stage. Nine of those contributions came away from home, yet they took just one point from the three fixtures on the road.
Speaking on CBS Sports following matchday six, Henry said: “I think that’s the first time in Champions League history you score 12 goals and finish bottom, the same goals as the team that finishes top. It’s just shocking.”
