Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is hopeful his side will compete for trophies again next season after an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign.

The Reds ended their season with a 4-4 draw against rock-bottomed Southampton as they finished fifth in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time in seven years since the German took over from Brendan Rodgers in 2016.

The 55-year-old has led the Merseysiders to three Champions League finals and won one - beating Tottenham  2-0 in Madrid courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

"The drive is there. We want to put last season right, it was disappointing. Of course it was, we can't hide from that fact. Of course, we'll have different goals and aims and it has to be better than last season, that's fact," Robertson said.

"I think now I need a week off from football, to switch on and spend some much needed family time. Then we'll start to switch on, it's not a long break. We'll start switching on slowly but surely and give it all we've got as soon as we get to pre season.

"We missed out on Champions League, it was hugely disappointing. But we have other trophies to go for, we have the Europa League. Then next season we have to try and be pushing at the top again. Hopefully we can do that!"

Robertson made 43 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions and recorded 11 assists in the process.
