Former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes that Tottenham defender Emerson Royal will be on his way out of the club soon.

The 23-year-old defender has been in poor form this season and he has been linked with a move away in the upcoming windows.

Emerson has been quite mediocre going forward and he has been criticised for his performances this season.

Tottenham will be hoping to challenge for the major trophies and they need a better squad to compete with clubs like Manchester City. Antonio Conte should look to bring in an upgrade on Emerson in the coming months.

Speaking to Talksport, Bent has revealed that the defender’s performance against Leeds United was abysmal and it could force the London club to cash in on the player.

Royal put his team under pressure with a poor pass straight to a Leeds player.

Andy Goldstein said on TalkSPORT: “Did you see that pass at the weekend by Emerson Royal where he just crossed the halfway line and he passed it into the middle of the park to no-one. It was one of the worst passes ever.”

Bent replied: “No, the worst pass he ever did was the no-look one where he passed it out of play.”

The talkSPORT host added: “I’ve got friends who were at Spurs at the weekend and he was subbed off after 60 minutes. My mate said standing ovation, to get him off.”

Bent responded: “That’s when you know the end is coming.”

Tottenham have players like Matt Doherty and Djed Spence as options for the right-back slot, but neither have been convincing with their performances this season.

Spurs have been linked with a number of full-backs in recent months and it will be interesting to see if they can bring in the necessary reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Tottenham are currently battling it out for a place in the top four and Conte should be looking to improve his squad in order to achieve his goals this season.
