Thomas Tuchel picked a funny front 3 today against Manchester City, and it’s fair to say it didn’t work out.

There were other problems with the team, and some poor performances on the pitch, but there can be no doubting that the boss’s selection didn’t help.

The paucity of their input was summed up by Chelsea’s attacking stats. It was a record breakingly bad day for Tuchel’s team, as you can see in the numbers here:

Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic contributed little, Romelu Lukaku was isolated and sluggish. With no Mason Mount in the team, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic looked swamped and our defence lacking in confidence or space to play good forward passes.

The absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell makes it so hard for the team to get up the pitch. This is an astonishingly good Manchester City team – but we’ve caused then problems before, and this blueprint wasn’t the right one.
