Mikey Johnston is currently enjoying a brilliant period in his career with West Brom. The Celtic winger departed for the Hawthorns in a loan deal until the end of the season and has scored seven goals, assisting once, in fifteen appearances.

Although, ex-Heart of Midlothian Assistant Lee McCulloch has revealed that the Jambos attempted to sign the Irish Internationalist after Ange Postecoglou put him to the loan market. Speaking to PLZ Soccer, the ex-Rangers player revealed a move was blocked by the attacker.

“We tried to get Mikey Johnston at Hearts and he didn’t want to leave Celtic. And if he did leave Celtic he didn’t want to go to another Scottish team.”

Instead, Johnston signed for Portuguese side Vitoria, where he struggled to add numbers to his game. Something that he has done well at in the English Championship – winning the Player of the Month.

Johnston has scored 13 goals and assisted on 12 occasions in 92 appearances for Celtic. Brendan has said that he will welcome the player back to the club in the summer, citing him as one of the best players to come out of the Celtic Academy.

It’ll be interesting to see how the summer progresses with Johnston. West Brom are vying for promotion and will likely look to make his move permanent. Celtic, however, are in a favourable position to sell the player and could demand upwards of £6m for the player.
