Tottenham Hotspur have seen their dream start to the 2023/24 Premier League season derailed after sustaining back-to-back losses to Chelsea and Wolves. They have now received a crushing injury update that James Maddison will be missing from the Spurs squad until the new year.

Tottenham Hotspur Dealt James Maddison Injury Blow

James Maddison Confirms Injury Woes

After the Lilywhites’ crushing 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Molineux Stadium, they were dealt another blow when James Maddison confirmed that he would be out for the remainder of their matches in 2023 due to an ankle injury.

He tweeted: “The rollercoaster that is football, unfortunately. Will need a period of time away from the pitch to get this one right. See you in the new year Spurs fans, I’ll be back better & stronger for sure, promise you that.”

Maddison picked up his injury during his side’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea in their previous home game. The 26-year-old is set to miss out on as many as eight fixtures in 2023 due to his injury, including Premier League clashes against Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Tottenham Season Hampered by Injury Woes

The England international’s injury adds to the pileup threatening to derail Ange Postecoglou’s impressive work at Tottenham this campaign. His injury update followed news that defender Micky van de Ven might be out for the rest of 2023 because of the hamstring problem he sustained against Chelsea.

On top of that, Brazilian forward Richarlison has undergone surgery for a groin problem – that has been troubling him. Experienced wing-back Ivan Perisic is already out with a nasty knee injury sustained earlier in the campaign. But the injury for Maddison will be particularly significant for the Lilywhites. He has had an impressive start to his career with Spurs, having scored three goals and provided five assists in 11 Premier League appearances.
