There is a potential Ballon d’Or winner in Manchester City’s ranks. Those are the thoughts of Brentford manager Thomas Frank. The Brentford manager had high praise for one Manchester City star ahead of tonight’s match at the Etihad Stadium.

While Erling Haaland is often thought of as the Manchester City player most likely to win the Ballon d’Or Thomas Frank believes Phil Foden has a chance of winning the coveted award. Frank saw Foden score a match-winning hat trick in the last meeting between the two sides. Speaking before tonight’s game at the Etihad the Brentford manager spoke highly of Foden. He told the media: “Phil Foden is a very good player. For me, he’s the closest England get to a Ballon d’Or winner in the future. I think he has that potential, that level. He influences the game in so many ways. The last game he got on the end of three situations and scored three goals. He is very at good dribbling, very good at sliding people in, and works very hard. He seems to have a good mentality in terms of working hard.”

Phil Foden has taken his game to another level this season. He has stepped up with the departure of Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury to help position City for a tilt at defending the treble they won last season. He has been given more responsibility by Pep Guardiola this season and it has brought out the best in Foden.

The talent of Phil Foden has long been known. He undoubtedly has the potential to become one of the premier players in world football. If he develops into the player he is threatening to become a Ballon d’Or may be in his future. If he does collect a Ballon Thomas Frank’s assessment will be proven correct.
