Thomas Tuchel has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s derby game with Tottenham this weekend, but there were more questions about transfer targets than tactics.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been strongly linked with Chelsea in recent days, and Tuchel was asked about his relationship with the forward, who he managed in Germany.

In the case of other players, Tuchel had trodden quite carefully, always insisting in the Premier League house-style that he “won’t speak about the players of other clubs.”

Interestingly in this case he was effusive about his time with PEA and talked about their great relationship continuing even when the striker was at Arsenal and Tuchel was managing us.

As far as manager flirting goes these days, this is pretty strong stuff, and if anything an indication to the board that he really wants the striker in his group this season if at all possible.

It’s not a move that will go down well with all fans, but backing the manager is important.
