It’s the international break, meaning light and fluffy stories all around to keep up occupied while we wait for club football to start again.

Timo Werner is the perfect man for those stories because of his light and fluffy personality and his great English, and the  Chelsea official website never fails to capitalise by getting him in for a chat.

This time he was discussing what he does in his spare time, and the German winger talked all about his love of Formula 1, which has a new season just underway.

Perhaps inevitably for someone who played for RB Leipzig, he is a Red Bull fan:

“It was very good to watch Formula One at this time and after that I have always watched it. We’ve had another good German driver for a long time, Sebastian Vettel, and there are some good rivalries so I like to watch those,” Timo explained.

“In Germany we have also good teams like Mercedes and because I played for Red Bull Leipzig, it was close to the Red Bull Formula One team so I support them as well. When we had the time to go to Formula One, we went to Red Bull so there is always that connection for who I support.

“I have been to Hockenheim in Germany, I have been to the Red Bull Ring in Austria – it is a dream I have to go to every single track where they drive in one year, but that is a dream I can realise after my career.”

He’s already been to see some races, and we will probably see him at a few more this season – if Chelsea’s crazy schedule permits it, of course. Attending every race in one season is a pretty unrealistic dream – unless you’re an international footballer that is.
