Fabrizio Romano has released an update on the negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Edmond Tapsoba. According to the Italian journalist, talks between the Premier League side and Bayer Leverkusen continue as each team is preparing for their pre-season friendlies later this month.

Tottenham Hotspur Still Working on Edmond Tapsoba Deal

Edmond Tapsoba or Micky van de Ven: Who Should Tottenham Prioritize?

The transfer guru noted that deals are being worked on for both players, but the Burkinabé has a better case due to his superior experience and attributes. Although Van de Ven has remarkable consistency for a 22-year-old he has not faced the quality of competition that Tapsoba has. Despite being just two years older, the 24-year-old has competed in five campaigns in either the Europa League and Champions League over the course of his career.

If Spurs wish to qualify for a European tournament this season, signing a centre-back who has faced some of the best teams in the world would be less of a gamble than purchasing the Wolfsburg man who has yet to prove himself outside of the Bundesliga.

When it comes to other attributes, the right-footed player has also been recognized for his composure, passing ability, and incredible strength during his time in Germany, with some even describing him as “blessed with pace, strength, awesome passing…”. This combination of offensive capabilities and defensive reliability will make him a great fit for the attacking style that Ange Postecoglou will implement.

If Not Both, At Least One

In reality, the 8th-place finishers need the talents of both of their top defensive targets. However, the financial circumstances would likely be larger than what Daniel Levy would be willing to spend. If this is the case, it is crucial that the Chairman secure the signature of at least one of them.

Either defender would undoubtedly improve Tottenham’s backline, but if only one of them is to be purchased, it makes the most sense to pay more money to bring in someone who has as much dependability and skill as Tapsoba.
