Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in recent months.

The North London club were keen on signing the England international during the January window as well, but the transfer did not work out back then.

A report from the Sun claims that Tottenham will return for him at the end of the season and they are looking to wrap up the transfer business early. Ange Postecoglou rates the player highly and he believes that Gallagher would be the ideal fit for his style of play.

The report further states that Chelsea will demand £40 million for the midfielder and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham are prepared to pay the asking price. He has a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2025, and the Blues are prepared to cash in on him because of their financial problems.

Chelsea will need to comply with financial regulations and they need to raise funds by selling some of their players. Gallagher has proven himself to be a reliable midfielder in the Premier League and the 24-year-old could improve Tottenham immensely. He could be the ideal replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Gallagher would be a long-term asset for Tottenham

Although the £40 million asking price might seem like a premium, Gallagher is still only 24 and he could sort out the Tottenham midfield for the foreseeable future. He could easily justify the investment in the long term.

Spurs want their transfer business wrapped up early so that they can focus on the pre-season and get the players used to their playing style. It remains to be seen whether they can finalise an agreement with their rivals quickly.

Gallagher is a boyhood Chelsea fan, but the opportunity to move to Tottenham could be an interesting one for him, especially if the Blues are keen on offloading him. Tottenham are well placed to secure Champions League qualification, and they have an exciting project at their disposal.
