Tottenham owners plan to spend big in transfer window

Antonio Conte joined Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur as head coach back in November after Tottenham parted ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, and Conte ultimately guided the Lilywhites to a fourth-place league finish and a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League competition.

Conte is currently set to be out of contract following the 2022-23 campaign but is apparently about to be backed financially and in a big way.

As explained by Reuters (h/t ESPN), Tottenham owners ENIC announced on Tuesday they are injecting £150 million back into the club for "greater financial flexibility and the ability to further invest on and off the pitch." Later in the day, Alasdair Gold of Football.London reported that "the bulk of the £150m cash injection" will go toward Conte and Tottenham managing director of football Fabio Paratici strengthening the squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Specifically, Gold noted that Conte wants to acquire "at least six new signings" and also wishes to add those players to his squad early in the window so they can complete a full preseason under his direction.

Tottenham could be looking to sign multiple defenders, two midfielders, a striker who can serve as a backup to England captain Harry Kane and a goalkeeper who may ultimately replace veteran Hugo Lloris after next season.

"The investment represents permanent capital, with no ongoing interest cost to the club, and which may be drawn in tranches until the end of the year," Tottenham said about the day's developments. "The Club’s independent directors have benefited from its majority shareholder’s ability to invest directly, swiftly and without the extensive due diligence and documentation involved in third party funding."
