Tottenham to fine Harry Kane for not reporting for training

Many in the football community were surprised to learn Monday that Tottenham Hotspur striker and England captain Harry Kane failed to report for preseason training, COVID-19 testing and routine blood work as he attempts to force a move to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard now reports Tottenham are set to hit the 28-year-old "with a significant fine" for what they are deeming a breach of contract. It's unclear if and when Kane could return to the club, and it was previously reported that he believes Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy offered him a "gentleman’s agreement" to leave the team to pursue silverware during the summer transfer window.

City allegedly offered £100 million for Kane's services last month, but Tottenham have priced the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner at £150 million. He's also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United in transfer rumors, and ESPN's Rob Dawson reported in June that City could wait until next year to pursue the forward.

Kane is signed with Tottenham for three more seasons on a £200,000-a-week deal, and new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted he believes the front man will remain with the club through the start of the upcoming campaign.
