Tottenham's Son Heung-min: Grueling training 'very important ahead of a long season'

Tottenham Hotspur players and coaches are preparing for the upcoming 2022-23 European calendar in South Korea, where the Premier League club will participate in some preseason friendlies.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte and others were in Monday headlines, though, when it was learned that multiple players collapsed on the pitch during what was reported to be a grueling two-hour training session that included 42 pitch-long runs and left striker and England captain Harry Kane needing "to be sick." Among the footballers spotted laying on the pitch was current Golden Boot holder and popular South Korea captain Son Heung-min.

Son spoke about the session during a Tuesday press conference.

"I’m not quite sure how many kilometers I covered in the training session but I know there is a set target the coaching staff want us to cover in training," Son explained, according to Alasdair Gold of Football.London. "The training is very important ahead of a long season. The team is doing pretty well with the training.

"There were no particular words among the players afterwards and one of the reasons was because the training was very hard. One thing I recall is that some of the players were saying the training was very hard so we'll leave it at that."

Per Alex Young of the Evening Standard, Tottenham will face a squad made up of some of the best players from South Korea’s top division on Wednesday.
