Francesco Totti highlighted the tension and unpredictability of the Derby della Capitale ahead of Roma’s upcoming match against Lazio.
The former Giallorossi talisman, who spent all 24 years of his professional career with the Roman club, faced the Biancocelesti an incredible 44 times throughout his career. He won 15 of those derbies, drawing 12 and losing 17, scoring 11 goals in that time. The duels between Totti and Alessandro Nesta were an iconic sight in the clash.
Speaking in the preface of ‘Il grande libro del derby di Roma’, Totti reflected upon the Derby della Capitale against Lazio and how it’s different from every other game.
I have many photos of my derbies as a player, one of which I even took with my mobile phone after a goal.
Over the years I’ve learnt that the derby is a roulette and has no rules, it’s all about nerves and individual moments.
The upcoming Derby della Capitale is a key clash in the race for European qualification this season, with Lazio sitting 5th in the table, being one point ahead of Roma. A victory for either side is key, especially considering the quality of Atalanta this season. They are currently tied on points with the Giallorossi.
