Trent Alexander-Arnold produced a record-breaking assist as Liverpool beat Burnley 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday.

The 25-year-old right-back set up Liverpool's opening goal of the game in the 31st minute when he found the head of Diogo Jota from a corner kick.

This was the 58th assist of Alexander-Arnold's Premier League career. He has now assisted more goals than any other defender in the competition's 32-year history.

Before Saturday's game, Alexander-Arnold had been level with Reds teammate Andy Robertson on 57 EPL assists.

The only other defender past or present with more than 50 Premier League assists is Leighton Baines, who set up 53 goals in 420 games for Wigan and Everton between 2005 and 2020.

In contrast, Alexander-Arnold's 58 assists have come in just 219 league games for Liverpool.

Most Premier League assists by defenders

  1. Trent Alexander-Arnold: 58
  2. Andy Robertson: 57
  3. Leighton Baines: 53

Alexander-Arnold was substituted off at half-time on Saturday, shortly after Dara O'Shea had headed home an equalizer for Burnley.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez then got on the scoresheet in the second half as Jurgen Klopp's men secured a victory that took them back to the top of the EPL table.
