Igor Tudor held his first training session as the new coach of Lazio today, but the medical staff had an update about the injury to Ivan Provedel.

Maurizio Sarri abruptly resigned last week following four consecutive defeats in all competitions and his assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello was at the helm for their victory away to Frosinone as caretaker.

Tudor signed the contract that is reported to be until June 2025 with an option to extend for another season and held his first training session with the squad today, although many were absent on international duty.

Provedel was not present, as he sprained his ankle during the 2-1 home defeat to Udinese on March 11 and it was initially reported he would be out of action for a month.

The update on Lazio Style Channel from chief medic Fabio Rodia tried to tread a fine line between optimism and realism.

“Provedel is making progress, but we cannot give a precise timeline for his return to the field. Despite the fact it is a very serious injury, the goalkeeper has made gigantic steps forward. The hope is to have him at our disposal for the derby.”

The clash with local rivals Roma is set for April 7.
