One football pundit has been raving about a Chelsea scout who spotted one summer signing at the start of the season.
The summer window is soon to open, so I suspect that Chelsea fans will be looking for a similar type of signing to be made, maybe even more than one. I call this one, smart recruitment.
We are of course speaking about Chelsea signing Cole Palmer from Manchester City for £42m, which in today’s game with some of the fees going around, can be classed as an absolute bargain.
Palmer has been Chelsea’s talisman this season, the one they rely on. Mauricio Pochettino encouraged his players to not let them be called Cole Palmer FC ahead of the Arsenal game when the attacker was out through illness, but they failed miserably at that and actually proved that yes, they ARE in fact Cole Palmer FC!
Ian Wright believes that the scout who spotted Palmer and pushed the move has done ‘unbelievable work’ and he’s absolutely right!
Wright admits that he ‘couldn’t have seen’ Palmer perform like he has been when he first joined and praised the ‘unbelievable work’ of the scouts at Chelsea, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/24 at 7:40 pm).
The former striker stated that at ‘£42 million’, if you were Manchester City, you would have bitten their hands off for that type of transfer fee, but now he is double that.
“Cole Palmer is probably their best player,” said Wright. “He is that player, you are afraid of.
“And the pressure that comes with going to Chelsea. When that move came about., firstly you thought ‘yeah, Manchester City, he might not be enough for them’.
“But for Chelsea to spot him, now they have spotted him, for him to go into Chelsea as a top-scorer, in the England squad now and probably going to be going to the Euros, is unbelievable work from that person and that recruitment. Unbelievable work. I couldn’t have seen that. If somebody said you could get Cole Palmer for £42 million, you would bite your hand off. But now he is double that.”
