The Philadelphia Union signed midfielder Jose Martinez to a new contract through the 2025 season.

The deal announced Thursday includes an option for 2026 for the 28-year-old Venezuelan.

Martinez has three assists in 12 matches (11 starts) in his fourth season with the Union.

"Jose has continuously demonstrated his importance to this team, with his passion and performance proving vital to the team's success over the past few seasons," Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a release. "He's dominant in the midfield and an important piece in our transition on attack. We're happy to have reached an agreement to extend his stay in Philadelphia."

Martinez has recorded 11 assists in 80 MLS matches (77 starts) since joining Philadelphia in 2020.
