Manchester United may have to shell out more than they’d originally thought if they’re to sign longstanding target Benjamin Sesko this summer.
The sought-after Slovenian star’s stellar performance this season has led to his release clause increasing.
Initially, it stood at £49.5 million until certain conditions of his agreement were met. Now, interested clubs can buy him out of his RB Leipzig contract if they pay £68m this summer, as confirmed by Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

There are ways around the hefty fee, however. Sesko was heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit throughout 2024 before he surprised his suitors by choosing to extend his stay with Leipzig, putting pen to paper on a five-year deal to keep him tied to the club until 2029.
It’s thought that the player’s decision was to benefit both him and Leipzig in the long run; the German outfit can recuperate a substantial fee when he does eventually move elsewhere, while they’re also willing to make his prospective exit easier by negotiating a reduced price tag.
Sesko is among INEOS’ forward targets
Whether United will test Leipzig’s resolve with a formal offer remains to be seen, but he is said to be firmly cemented on INEOS’ shortlist ahead of the window opening next month.
Prolific attackers are at the forefront of the Red Devils’ plans this year, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap, and even Sesko’s current teammate Xavi Simons all being linked with the 20-time champions as of late.
The 21-year-old was hailed by Jurgen Klopp, who took on the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull following his Liverpool departure, for having ‘incredible potential’ in January. He has notched 21 goals and six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions this campaign.
