Chelsea have been reduced to being placed in the 11th position in the Premier League table after back-to-back losses in recent matches. On top of that, there is now worrying news on the future of experienced centre-back Thiago Silva.

Thiago Silva Unlikely To Extend Chelsea Contract

Has Thiago Silva Been Offered a New Deal Yet?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Brazilian defender is not expected to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign. He adds that there is a “very concrete chance” that the Champions League winner becomes a free agent in the summer and opts to have one last dance at another club.

Romano also reiterates that things can change in this regard in the months to come, but for the time being, no discussions are going on between Silva and Chelsea over the possibility of a new contract and he hasn’t received any proposals either. The journalist also states that the centre-back shares an excellent relationship with manager Mauricio Pochettino even after his wife posted a controversial tweet after the Blues’ loss to Wolves on Sunday (February 4) where she seemingly indicated that the manager should be sacked.

Who Could Replace the Brazilian At Chelsea?

If Silva does end up leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign, Chelsea could have to look at potential replacements to fill the void that he will leave. The Blues have been reported to have an interest in Sporting CP’s young defender Ousmane Diomande and contacted the club in the winter window, but nothing transpired. They could, perhaps, go back for him if they are in need of a centre-back.

Moreover, the London heavyweights already have a lot of centre-back options at the club. Summer signing Axel Disasi has become a regular, while French centre-back Wesley Fofana will be there next season too. The left-footed Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill are also other options. However, none of the defenders have the same amount of experience or commanding nature as Silva, who was hailed as “really important” last season and has made 144 appearances for Chelsea after joining them in 2020.
