Liverpool captain for the night James Milner almost sent Karim Benzema to hospital after a horror tackle landed right on the Frenchman’s ankle.

Milner, while he boasts vast amounts of experience and strong leadership qualities, also has bit of a bite – which can oftentimes provide the edge in games of this nature.

Real Madrid have a bite, one which they’re not afraid to use if necessary, one which has served them well in the Champions League in years prior.

Though, some would argue that there’s a distinct difference between a bit of argy-bargy and a potentially season-ending tackle, which is what Milner hit Benzema with at Anfield.

Milner flew in recklessly, with his studs turning Benzema’s ankle in the wrong direction, but there was no card awarded to the former Manchester City man, who got off completely scot-free.

It’s incredibly rare that, in the modern game, with VAR in force, a tackle this bad goes unpunished. Milner can count himself very lucky, as can Benzema for that matter…
