Alistair Johnston featured for Canada against Japan. Johnston was joined by Celtic colleagues Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi when the teams met in a friendly at Denka Big Swan Stadium on October 13, 2023. The fixture that was held in Niigata, Japan saw the Celtic fullback leave one on Keito Nakamura that required the Stade Reims player to be stretchered from the pitch.

It was an accidental incident from Johnston as he caught Nakamura on the ankle, which appeared to put the player in some discomfort. The Canada star joined Celtic around the time of the World Cup last year. Since then, he has been brilliant as Celtic won three trophies and he replaced Josip Juranovic.
