Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa channelled his inner David Beckham to score from just over the halfway line during his side’s visit to Villarreal.

Diego Simeone’s men will have already come to terms with the fact that they will be handing over their La Liga crown come the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Despite Atleti having gone all the way to win La Liga ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona last time around, they have been sub-standard this season to date.

Still, they have to be on the ball in order to ensure that they don’t slip out of the Champions League qualification places, for which there is serious competition this term.

One of the teams looking to navigate their way into the top four is Unai Emery’s Villarreal, who hosted Atletico this evening.

Merely ten minutes into the contest, we were treated with one of the goals of the season so far as Angel Correa found the back of the net from marginally over the halfway line.

Spotting the goalkeeper off his line is one thing, but having the ability to execute the long-range strike is another. What a stunning goal that is from Correa!
