Bruno Fernandes is emerging as Portugal’s most important player at this winter’s World Cup and the 28-year-old guided his nation to another victory on Monday evening.

Fernandes starred in their opening game against Ghana, assisting two goals as Portugal claimed a 3-2 victory to grab an early stranglehold of their group.

Faced with the tough task of beating Uruguay, it was Fernandes who stepped up once again for Portugal as he opened the scoring in the first half despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s best efforts of claiming the goal for himself.

Later in the game, with Ronaldo substituted, it was the United general who won a penalty and converted it brilliantly to seal his brace.

Interestingly, Fernandes’ signature hop and the skip was back on show as he doubled his tally. He has now scored two goals and assisted another two in just two games in Qatar.
