It is fair to say that the Uruguay team isn’t a fan of VAR.

Uruguay was dumped out of the competition earlier today when South Korea shocked the world and won against Portugal. The result moved them up to second place, level on points with Uruguay but ahead on goal difference.

As Uruguay scrambled to extend their 2-0 lead, one more goal would’ve secured qualification, they launched a Hail Mary attack on the Ghana goal. In the chaos, Edinson Cavani powered into the box and went down under a challenge from an opposition player.

Without hesitation, the referee waved it away and VAR agreed, to the shock of the Uruguay team.

After the full-time whistle, the players hounded the referee and his staff down the tunnel. A video has now emerged of Cavani punching the VAR monitor as he made his way to the changing room.

Despite still remaining unbeaten against African sides in the World Cup, Uruguay will join Ghana on an early plane home.
