Lisandro Martinez deserved his man of the match award after a stunning display against Nottingham Forest in the first leg of Manchester United’s Carabao Cup semi-final.

You could say the Reds have one foot in the final after their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes swung the tie in United’s favour ahead of the second leg.

Sky Sports interviewed Martinez after the game and you could see by the smile on his face that he was happy with the man of the match award as well as the result.

“We have to go step by step,” Martinez urged his team-mates after a comfortable win in the first leg.

The centre-back also warned “we never give up” which could be see as a message to other teams in the Premier League.

Martinez followed Ten Hag to United to win trophies and it’s great to see us in a competition to compete for silverware in his first season.
