Mason Greenwood has started 2024 by getting sent off in Getafe’s game against Rayo Vallecano.

Getafe were already reduced to 10 men after Juanmi Latasa picked two bookings in the opening 40 minutes.

Sergio Camello scored the opening just before half time to make matters worse for Getafe. He doubled Rayo’s lead two minutes later, before Greenwood was sent for an early shower.

Running at the Rayo defence, Greenwood was clearly obstructed, but the referee waved play on. This led to the United loanee having words with the official and he was shown a straight red card as a result.

Greenwood looked bewildered at the ref’s decision to send him off. He also made a gesture as he left the pitch.

Back in the headlines for the wrong reasons, eh?
