Paris Saint-Germain came into the season understanding that they would split the goalkeeping starts between Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Although it might seem like a good idea on paper, these are athletes who are used to being starters on top clubs.

Navas won multiple trophies while at Real Madrid, and Donnarumma was the captain of AC Milan, which is why the 22-year-old recently showed some frustration when discussing the goalkeeping position at PSG.

Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola, also commented on the situation during an interview. At his press conference, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about Donnarumma’s and his entourage’s comments over the matter.

“The entourage of the 33 professional players and all the young people of the training center think that they can be number 1 or that they can play. My wife, kids, and everyone around me think I’m the best coach in the world, but I say I’m not. Let’s keep calm! This is how human relationships are. The people around each individual are standing up for you. I would always defend my children,” Pochettino said.

“It’s like that. I would always say my son is the smartest. This is why we cannot take into account the opinions of those around us. A coach cannot talk about this. It’s impossible. As we also have an entourage, we understand and empathize with the surroundings of others because they are the suffering ones. When I was at Espanyol Barcelona, my children were suffering because I was not the coach of FC Barcelona at the time.”
