Former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero was at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Romero watched his former club beat FC Sheriff 3-0 in the Europa League and was spotted fans during and after the match.

When signing autographs after the match, a fan asked Romero when he was coming back to Manchester United, to which he jokingly replied: “Hopefully quick!”

Romero joined Argentine giants Boca Juniors on a free transfer during the summer and move saw him link up with former United team-mate Marcos Rojo.

There was speculation over the summer that Romero wanted to return to United, but a deal never materialised. The Manchester Evening News reported at the end of June that Romero would have been open to a United comeback in a back-up role.

That was before Erik ten Hag decided to sign Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle.
