Watch: Switzerland's Dan Ndoye strikes first vs. Germany
Germany has struggled in recent matches against Switzerland, and it appears the Nati still has its number at UEFA Euro 2024.
In the 28th minute of the match in Group A, 23-year-old forward Dan Ndoye netted a goal in his fourth international start, giving Switzerland a 1-0 lead. Max Matthews of The Athletic shared that video assistant referee (VAR) reviewed the strike for offside and the call stood.
In the 17th minute, German midfielder Robert Andrich scored a goal, but VAR determined there was a foul on Jamal Musiala, erasing it.
According to FIFA rankings, Germany is the 16th-best team in the world while Switzerland is 19th. But the Nati has won its last three matchups against Germany, scoring nine goals, per UEFA.com.
Switzerland's streak against Germany clearly gives it confidence and could help it advance to the tournament's knockout stage for the third straight time.
Switzerland (seven points) leads Group A, while Germany (six points) is second. However, the Germans already secured a spot in the round of 16 following wins over Hungary and Scotland. Switzerland must win, tie or have Scotland lose to Hungary to punch its ticket to the next round.
