Wayne Rooney has said that he wants to be managing either Manchester United or Everton within the "next 10 years".
Rooney started his playing career at Everton before spending 13 seasons at United, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 253 goals.
The 38-year-old retired from playing in January 2021.
He has since held managerial positions at Derby County, D.C. United and Birmingham City.
Rooney's most recent role as Birmingham boss lasted less than three months as he was fired after winning just two and losing nine of his 15 games in charge.
Despite this disappointing experience, Rooney has not lost his appetite for club management and still believes that he has what it takes to succeed in "one of the big jobs".
Rooney was a guest on BBC Match of the Day on Wednesday to provide analysis during United's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.
While on the show, Rooney was asked about his managerial aspirations.
He replied: "Managing Manchester United or Everton is the aim, these big jobs are where you want to get to.
"But it's a process. I have got to go through the steps and get myself back on track.
"I want to get myself back into management to make sure in the next 10 years I'm hopefully in a position to go into one of the big jobs."
He added: "I definitely want to get back into management. It was a setback what happened at Birmingham but I'm a fighter and I want to get back into it.
"You know as a manager [being fired] is part of the job and you will have setbacks. It's about how you bounce back.
"I've had some good time to reflect and will make sure I get it right next time."
