Werder Bremen management have suspended Naby Keita for the remainder of the season.

Werder Bremen announced on its official website that Keta chose not to travel with the team to the last away match against Bayer Leverkusen as he was not in the starting XI.

Werder have decided to suspend Keta for the rest of the season. The former Liverpool midfielder is not allowed to train with the team or play matches.

"As a club, we will not tolerate Naby's behaviour. He has let his team down at a time of difficulty regarding our form and squad availability and put his own interests above those of the team. We cannot allow that," said Werder chief Clemens Fritz to the club's website.

"At this stage of the season, we need full focus on the remaining games and a team that sticks together. That is why we have no alternative."
