The 6’6″ striker scored two crucial late goals for his country in added time to send the game to penalties, they inevitably lost but his performance was noted.

The 30-year-old striker is currently on loan from Burnley at Turkish Süper Lig club Beşiktaş where he has played well so far this season. But Weghorst has failed to impress in England which is why it is surprising that Manchester United have rumoured interest in him.

One man who was just as surprised at the links was fellow countryman Sneijder, who thinks that ‘it must be a stunt.’

‘I think they’ve seen the trick with the free kick [in the quarter-final of the World Cup against Argentina], so they don’t fall for that in England anymore.’ he told VP.

‘In terms of striker, is he really someone United are waiting for? I don’t think so. They still have 300 of those in the Premier League. It must be a stunt. This really can’t be true.’

Do you think that he would be a good signing for Manchester United?
