It’s become clear in the last few weeks that Barcelona need to strengthen significantly during the upcoming summer transfer window. They are a distance behind Real Madrid, and as things stand, they aren’t even expected to finish inside the top two, with Girona currently occupying that second spot.

Xavi Hernandez has a big job on his hands for next season, and he wants to be best prepared. That will involve signing new players, and one that he wants to add to his squad is Xavi Simons, who is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. The Dutch midfielder is very familiar with Los Blaugrana, having been at La Masia until the age of 16.

Simons is reportedly very open to re-joining Barcelona this summer, and Sport have now reported that Xavi has instructed Deco to negotiate a deal with PSG. The idea would be to propose an initial loan deal that would include a very significant purchase option.

The problem for Barcelona is that for now, PSG do not intend to get rid of Simons during the summer. Luis Enrique is planning to have him in his squad for the 2024-25 season, and if that stance remains the same over the summer, their chances of securing his services would be scuppered.
