Manchester United could sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer on a Bosman next summer.

The Switzerland number one is still involved at the World Cup after reaching the round of 16 in Qatar.

According to Bild, as per the Manchester Evening News, Sommer is preparing for a move to the Premier League when his contract expires in the summer. That means one of the Bundesliga’s best goalkeepers is set to leave Germany – but the question is will United be among the clubs interested to seal his signature?

The report suggests that Erik ten Hag will make a move for Sommer when his Borussia Monchengladbach contract expires at the end of the season.

This would suggest that David de Gea will be replaced in the summer, but maybe United are looking at this from a fresh perspective. He is currently the highest paid goalkeeper in the world and the club needs to address its bizarre wage structure.

That said, De Gea has performed well this season and there is an argument to be had over whether he deserves a new deal – albeit on a smaller salary.

Sommer was a rumoured target during the summer, so there must be something in these links since they keep popping up. He is also renowned for building attacks from the back, which is what Ten Hag demands from his keeper.

Let us know in the comments section if you think it’s time to move on from De Gea. There is no denying that he has been a fantastic servant to the club.
