Zlatan Ibrahimovic signs contract extension with AC Milan

2021 has been a pretty big year for AC Milan superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 39-year-old veteran forward generated headlines in February when he suggested that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James should stick to sports, and Ibrahimovic then returned to the Sweden men's national team in March after a five-year hiatus from international football.

On Thursday, AC Milan confirmed that they signed Ibrahimovic to a one-year contract extension that will keep him with the Serie A outfit past his 40th birthday.

Ibrahimovic offered comments for the club's Twitter account after putting pen to paper on the agreement:

According to an ESPN piece, Ibrahimovic became the oldest player to score at least 10 goals in a single season during the 2019-20 campaign and has contributed 17 goals across all competitions, to date, this season.

Goal's Stephen Darwin reports Ibrahimovic's extension will pay him roughly $7 million. AC Milan, meanwhile, are second in the Serie A table and on track to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.
