Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni and captain Lionel Messi still have faith that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez can come good during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old has not lost the backing of the Albiceleste, who will still turn to him in the tournament.

Martinez has endured a difficult World Cup so far in Qatar.

The Nerazzurri striker has yet to score or assist a goal at the tournament.

This, combined with the fact that Julian Alvarez has started the Albiceleste’s past couple of matches has meant that some doubts has been cast on Martinez’s standing in his national team squad.

However, both Scaloni and Messi still feel that the Inter striker just needs a bit of confidence.

Whether or not Martinez starts in any matches that Argentina play as the tournament progresses, he will still have a role to play.
