Bayern Munich rolled up to Villa Park on Wednesday night fully expecting to claim all three points. However, as destiny had it, Unai Emery ‘s men were set to etch their names in history as they claimed a thrilling, hard-fought 1-0 victory over German giants Bayern. A late goal from man on fire Jhon Duran and a world class display from Emiliano Martinez helped The Villans pick up a second consecutive win in the UCL.
Fans were delighted to see Villa play their best game against a side like Bayern, who seldom let chances go by without punishing their opposition. After a nervy 79 minutes or so, Jhon Duran, who had only been on the pitch for 9 minutes, found himself through on goal. The Colombian has been in stellar form coming off the bench, and made no mistake to find the net from a Pau Torres pass.
The forward confidently lifted the ball over Manuel Neuer, who was unfortunately caught in no man’s land. Despite the goal, most of the credit for the win went to Emiliano Martinez, who made more than 3 unbelievable saves throughout the game.

He was seen ecstatically banging his hands on the floor and overcome by emotion as the referee blew his whistle at full-time.
A proud Unai Emery spoke to reporters as the Spaniard revelled in the wake of the historic result. Fans and social media pages were quick to point out that the club were in the relegation zone when Aston Villa appointed Emery around two years ago. However, after months of being mocked as a manager, especially for his time at Arsenal, he has now transformed the identity of Aston Villa completely.
Surprisingly, it was Emery who orchestrated Bayern’s last two group stage losses in recent times, the first one being 41 matches before.
We are very happy, very proud. Facing one of the best teams in the world and then winning, this is the way we want to go. A lot of things were emotionally very important.
Unai Emery told reporters
