Celtic now looking like a well drilled side. A few more additions will set us up for a successful season…
Our pre-season preparations continued last night in the soaring heat of the Algarve as we recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon thanks to second half goals from Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan.
It was of course no more than a pre-Season friendly match but a worthwhile one all the same and it was a pleasing one in the way that the players looked very well drilled and confident in their overall play.
From back to front we looked assured on and off the ball. From Kasper Schmeichel in goal to Dane Murray and Liam Scales at the back to Reo Hatate and the impressive Benjamin Nygren in the middle of the park, we very much looked the part.
Let’s not forget that we still have the likes of Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers to come back in, meaning we can feel very confident heading into the new campaign.
There is however still a few areas in needing of strengthening, ideally a skilful winger and prolific striker with Adam Idah again looking out of sorts, although Johnny Kenny impressed with a solid lively second half showing. That Bhoy is a keeper.
Michel – Ange Balikwisha is edging closer to making the move to Glasgow, whilst Shin Yamada is already on the way, so let’s hope that’s two more pieces in the jigsaw.
A few more additions wouldn’t go amiss either, and would further improve our squad ahead of the new campaign, with a left-back a top priority to provide back-up to Kieran Tierney.
Next up is Newcastle United at Celtic Park on Saturday and ticket sales are likely to soar after that impressive performance and result last night against a Champions League side.
Well done Celtic.
