Lazio midfielder Gonzalo Escalante has fallen down the pecking order and could leave the club in the January transfer window.

As reported by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi last night, the 28-year-old Argentinian midfielder has only played eight minutes so far this campaign under coach Maurizio Sarri, who has been more convinced by Italian midfielder Danilo Cataldi.

With Cataldi playing the backup to Brazilian veteran Lucas Leiva, Escalante has found himself sidelined in the Lazio squad, remaining relegated to the bench.

In the summer transfer window Lazio valued the Argentinian midfielder at around €7-8 million but the interested Olympique de Marseille were unable to make an offer matching that, due to the fact that Boubacar Kamara stayed with Jorge Sampaoli’s side.

Kamara could leave south France in the January transfer window, with multiple Premier League clubs interested in him. This would then allow the French side to make another attempt to sign Escalante.

Some Turkish and Spanish clubs are also interested in the 28-year-old, meaning that a January departure is entirely possible, especially if Sarri continues to leave Escalante on the bench.
