Manchester United are interested in signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap

Manchester United have started putting plans in place for the forthcoming summer transfer window.

After replacing Erik ten Hag at the helm in November, Ruben Amorim immediately established his tactical style of play at the club and made numerous tough calls. Despite the team struggling for creativity and goals, he allowed Marcus Rashford and Antony to leave on loan in January.

Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho, who is currently on loan at Chelsea, are not part of the Portuguese tactician’s long-term plans at Old Trafford, and he intends to make more surgery to his squad.

The Red Devils are facing a lot of financial restrictions due to their frivolous spending in the past few years. They burnt cash on several players who turned out to be misfits, thereby, failing to live up to the lofty expectations whilst being on high wages. Thus, it is crucial that Manchester United sell well before they can back Ruben Amorim in the transfer market.

INEOS have shown a proactive approach by starting dialogue with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward has been identified as a key target to bolster Amorim’s forward line following his eye-catching exploits in Wolves colours. Apart from him, the Premier League giants want a pure No.9.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has been heavily linked with a move to Man United for months now. The Winchester-born talent, who swapped Manchester City for Ipswich Town last summer, is set to leave Portman Road amid their impending Premier League relegation at the first time of asking. Should they go down to the Championship, the suitors will be able to trigger his £30m release clause.

Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano has now given insight into Man United’s interest in Liam Delap. The Italian journalist has revealed that the Red Devils are attentive to the striker’s situation at Ipswich and see his £30m release clause as a ‘big opportunity’. However, Chelsea are set to rival United for his services.

“Yeah, both of them [Man United and Chelsea] are trying. Both of them are interested,” Fabrizio Romano said on GIVEMESPORT’S Market Madness Podcast.

“So for sure, the player is doing fantastic, and so Man United and Chelsea are very attentive to the situation.

“From what I heard, they have already made contact with the agents of the player to be informed on this relegation clause, £30 million. It’s a big opportunity.”

Delap has been fantastic in his breakout Premier League campaign, leading the charge for Ipswich’s survival with 12 goals and two assists in 32 Premier League appearances. He has shown the ability to score goals in a mediocre side, and when surrounded by better players at United, the England under-21 international would be able to score more.

It’s not a secret that the 20-time English champions have struggled in front of goal this season, with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee proving ineffective up top. We have scored just 38 goals in 33 Premier League games this season, which explains why INEOS are looking at forwards with PL experience. This makes Delap a good fit, even though it is just his first full season in the top flight. At 22, he could be the club’s long-term solution to their goalscoring woes.

Having spent four years at the Man City academy, Delap will be keen to become a hero across the city if a summer move materialises.
