Tottenham must revive their interest in FC Copenhagen talent Victor Froholdt this summer

Tottenham Hotspur hold a realistic shot at winning the Europa League competition next week. The Lilywhites could not only salvage their season but also end a 17-year wait for silverware, a triumph that would mark a turning point in what has otherwise been a campaign to forget.

Regardless of what happens in the Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao, there is no escaping the harsh reality that a major squad revamp is essential this summer. An underwhelming league campaign has exposed the glaring weaknesses throughout the squad. Daniel Levy must act decisively in the transfer market, ensuring that quality reinforcements are brought in to rebuild the squad for next season and beyond.

And a talented youngster Levy previously missed out on could be the right place to start the rebuild at N17. FC Copenhagen midfielder Victor Froholdt was scouted by several clubs last year after he was promoted to their first team. The teenager has enjoyed a strong breakout season at FC Copenhagen, registering three goals and an assist in 28 league outings.

For his growing influence in the senior side, he was rewarded with a new contract until 2028. Victor Froholdt has evolved into a key first-team player, as FC Copenhagen enter the final stages of the Superliga Championship play-offs.

However, according to a report from Danish outlet Bold, FC Copenhagen are ready to sell Froholdt this summer for a record transfer fee. They rejected an offer from Tottenham last year but are now open to offers for him, despite the teenager’s rise in stature under Jacob Neestrup.

Tottenham were keen to sign the versatile midfielder last year, which shows their commitment towards enhancing the pool of young talent. Given how Levy is looking to bring in long-term project players, Froholdt at 19, fits the criteria perfectly. A central midfielder by trade, the one-cap Denmark international can also operate in a deeper role or out wide, and such versatility only adds further value to his name.

The Copenhagen native’s ability to dictate play and contribute on both ends of the pitch would make him a highly sought-after talent heading into the summer transfer window, now that that the Danish giants are prepared to sell him. It remains to be seen what valuation they set for their midfield starlet, but Tottenham have to be in the mix for his signature without any shadow of doubt.

As the club prepares to offload Yves Bissouma, a move for Froholdt could be viewed as a long-term potential replacement for the Mali international.
