Manchester United supporters will always associate the Ferguson name with one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
The legendary reign of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United shaped generations of football fans and established a lasting legacy at Old Trafford.
That famous surname has continued to appear in football circles through his son, who has spent years building a managerial career away from the Premier League spotlight.
While his journey has mostly taken place in the lower divisions of English football, the younger Ferguson has managed to create an impressive record of his own.
That manager is Darren Ferguson, who has now spoken publicly after being linked with a new role.
The 54-year-old recently emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial position at Northampton Town.
However, Ferguson quickly shut down speculation regarding a move to the League One club.
Reports suggest he was contacted about the situation and made his stance very clear.
According to the Sun, Darren Ferguson described the possibility of taking the job as a “definite no”.
The experienced manager is currently without a club as he waits for the right opportunity to appear.
Throughout his career, Ferguson has become most closely associated with Peterborough United, where he has managed the side across four different spells but ultimately got the sack.
During those periods he enjoyed considerable success, lifting the EFL Trophy three times and guiding the club to multiple promotions.
His coaching journey has also included spells at Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers.
The vacancy at Northampton appeared after the club recently parted ways with Kevin Nolan.
Nolan, a former Premier League midfielder who played for clubs such as West Ham United, Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United, had been in charge before his dismissal earlier this week.
The decision came at a difficult moment for Northampton, who currently sit second from bottom in EFL League One.
With only ten matches remaining in the season, the club faces a tough battle to secure survival in the third tier.
For Ferguson, however, the situation will not lead to his next managerial chapter.
Instead, the son of the Manchester United legend appears content to wait patiently for the right project to emerge.
